Our Story
We’re Martin Mingo and Francisco Opazo, two friends originally from Chile who immigrated to the United States. We’ve both played tennis for years, and through playing, we started noticing a problem that’s easy to overlook: how many tennis balls get thrown away and how expensive the sport has become.
Tennis balls don’t last forever. Once they lose their bounce, they’re often left sitting around or simply thrown out. At the same time, the cost of playing tennis keeps adding up, especially for younger players and families.
We felt like there had to be a better way to deal with all those used balls. That’s where The Second Bounce Project started in 2024.
We began collecting tennis balls and looking for ways to give them another use instead of letting them go to waste. What started as a simple idea between two tennis players has grown into a project we hope can make a real difference in our community.
As the project grows, we hope to support youth tennis programs, animal shelters, schools, clubs, and other community organizations through genuine, verified relationships.
“Every tennis ball deserves the chance to serve one more purpose.”
